Two approaches to mobile service
Both approaches can put ordering and payment in a server’s hand. The decision is whether the property wants to own and operate another purpose-built device fleet or use compatible phones that staff already carry.
What Oracle’s handheld hardware does well
Oracle’s MICROS Tablet 700 Series is designed for restaurant conditions. Oracle highlights resistance to heat, spills, grease, and drops; an eight-hour hot-swappable battery; offline operation; integrated payment capabilities; and accessories such as gang chargers, charging cradles, extended batteries, pouches, and straps.
That is a real advantage when a property wants standardized, rugged hardware under centralized control. A dedicated device can be configured for one job, handed out at the start of a shift, and kept separate from an employee’s personal phone.
Oracle also currently advertises its mobile POS tablet for $1 when switching to its Simphony cloud POS offering. That means it would be misleading to assume every property faces a large upfront Oracle hardware purchase. The promoted price is part of an Oracle Simphony commercial offer, not an ordinary one-dollar retail price for a standalone tablet, so properties should confirm eligibility and contract terms directly with Oracle.
The Club Order approach: bring the workflow to the phone
Club Order Server App is designed for staff working away from a fixed terminal—especially across pools, beaches, lawns, golf areas, marinas, and other large service zones. A server can start a Simphony check, add later rounds, include modifiers and special instructions, and close the check from the app.
Each round also creates an order for the kitchen and food-running workflow. Staff can preserve a delivery description and location by round, so the kitchen knows what to prepare and runners know where to bring it. That connects front-of-house check management with the outdoor fulfillment problem that Club Order is built to solve.
Stripe documents Tap to Pay support on compatible iPhone and Android devices. In Club Order, that allows a server’s phone to accept a contactless card or mobile wallet without pairing a separate card reader. Device, operating-system, country, cardholder-verification, and Stripe availability requirements still apply.
The larger cost is often the device fleet
Even when handheld acquisition is discounted, a dedicated fleet still has an operational footprint. Someone has to:
- Size the fleet for peak staffing and keep spares available.
- Charge, distribute, collect, and account for devices every shift.
- Purchase and place docks, gang chargers, straps, pouches, and replacement batteries.
- Replace damaged or missing equipment.
- Enroll, configure, secure, update, and support another class of endpoint.
- Train seasonal staff on hardware they may use only at work.
For a resort pool with a large or seasonal service team, avoiding that additional fleet can be more valuable than quoting a theoretical per-device purchase price.
As an internal planning scenario, a pool staffing 15 servers might estimate $20,000–$40,000 for a new dedicated handheld deployment once its selected devices, accessories, spares, setup, and support are included. That is not a published Oracle list price or a universal savings claim. Oracle’s $1 Simphony promotion could materially change the acquisition side of that calculation for an eligible property.
